A team of dedicated 110 volunteers did all the work!

Environmental NGO Żibel has once again made a powerful impact with its monthly clean-up, this time held at Manoel Island.

Over the course of a single day, a dedicated team of 110 volunteers - spanning land crews, snorkellers, divers, and sorters collected a staggering 1,970.52 kilograms of marine debris and land litter.

The effort showcased not only hard work and teamwork but also the community’s growing commitment to protecting Malta’s fragile marine and coastal ecosystems. The breakdown of waste paints a stark picture of the types of pollution plaguing Malta’s waters and shores. Volunteers hauled out 137.44 kg of plastic, 39.20 kg of glass, 792.40 kg of metal, and a shocking 1,001.48 kg of other debris.

Żibel expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone involved, from sponsors to volunteers, for making the event a success. Their message was clear: without the community’s dedication and love for the island, such results would not be possible.

With nearly two tonnes of waste cleared in a single event, Żibel continues to highlight both the severity of marine pollution and the positive change that collective action can bring.

Well done!
