A recent post in the popular Facebook group ‘Malta, News, Photos and People’ has raised concerns over a potentially dangerous situation at Imġiebaħ Bay, a remote but much-loved spot in Mellieħa.

The post, accompanied by a photo, shows a large boulder visibly cracked and appearing ready to detach from the cliffs that tower above the sandy bay. With sunbathers often gathering directly below, as can be seen in the photo shared, the risk of collapse could pose a serious hazard.

The warning, shared alongside photos taken by Frenki Dragan, read: ‘WARNING!!! This is Imġiebaħ beach. A huge chunk of rock is waiting for its moment to crash into the sea.’

Locals are now urging that the area be assessed and, if necessary, fenced off or clearly marked to prevent accidents.

Imġiebaħ Bay is a secluded gem beloved for its unspoilt natural beauty, but its rugged surroundings also make it prone to natural rockfall. This latest warning serves as a reminder to beachgoers to remain cautious when choosing where to sit or swim along Malta’s cliff-backed bays.

Have you visited Imġiebaħ Bay recently?
