A new national record in pyrotechnics was set on Saturday during the spectacular fireworks display marking the eve of the feast of Santa Venera. The record-breaking feat was achieved by Andre Mercieca, a well-known name in Malta’s fireworks community, known for his creativity and passion for pushing boundaries.

The centrepiece of the night was the largest firework structure, known as the Catherine Wheel, ever to be made in Gozo and transported to Malta; an impressive creation and the largest ever to perform an island hop!

The massive Catherine wheel measured an astounding 27 feet in width, 35 feet in height, and 30 feet in diameter. Its flawless performance during the show captivated the crowd and marked a historic moment for local pyrotechnics.

Andre Mercieca has long been admired for his innovative approach to firework design, often introducing new mechanisms and structures that elevate Malta’s rich fireworks tradition.

Did you witness this record first-hand this weekend?
