This places Malta alongside other internationally renowned destinations hosting major art events this year, including the 61st Venice Biennale and the 25th Biennale of Sydney.

This year, around 30 major art exhibitions are taking place globally, including 16 biennials and triennials. The second edition of the Malta Biennale is drawing considerable international attention, with coverage from leading art magazines and platforms such as Artforum, South West Contemporary, and Germany’s eTN, which highlighted Malta as a unique spring-season destination.

Opening from the 11th of March to the 29th of May, the Biennale will take place across 11 Heritage Malta museums and historical sites in Valletta, Birgu, Xagħra, and Ċittadella in Gozo. Under the artistic direction of internationally acclaimed curator Rosa Martínez, the event will feature over 100 artists from 39 countries in a main exhibition, along with 29 national and thematic pavilions.

Held under the patronage of Her Excellency the President of Malta, the Biennale is organised by Heritage Malta in partnership with Arts Council Malta, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, the Ministry for Culture, Lands and Local Government, and Visit Malta.
