It’s beginning to look a lot like winter!

The first week of December is set to bring a mix of mild temperatures and episodes of significant rainfall across the Maltese Islands, according to the latest update from Maltese Islands Weather. Despite the unsettled conditions, temperatures will remain above the seasonal average, offering a relatively warm start to the month even as winter approaches.

Monday begins on a calm note with partly cloudy skies and highs reaching around 20°C. By Tuesday, cloud cover increases, signalling the arrival of more active weather systems. Temperatures peak at 21°C before dropping to cooler nighttime lows of 15°C.

From Wednesday onward, the islands will experience a notable shift as a series of thunderstorms moves in.

Wednesday and Friday are expected to bring the most intense conditions, with widespread thunderstorms and a high risk of rainfall.

Thursday and Saturday will see isolated storms or showers, though the risk remains significant throughout this period. Rainfall amounts could vary, with Wednesday bringing the heaviest totals, between 9 mm and 20 mm, while other days may see lighter but persistent rainfall.

Winds will fluctuate throughout the week, strengthening during stormier intervals, especially later in the week as they shift from easterly to westerly directions. Sea conditions will range from slight to moderate, particularly as winds increase midweek.

Overall, residents can expect a wet start to December marked by intermittent thunderstorms yet tempered by unusually mild temperatures for the time of year.
