Pierre Farrugia takes us through the natural beauty of Madliena’s Wied il-Faħam
Providing views for days!

Local explorer and vlogger Pierre Farrugia recently set off on a picturesque hike starting from Għargħur, making his way into the serene valley of Wied il-Faħam, and the journey is a perfect reminder of how much natural beauty Malta still has to offer.

The walk begins on the rural outskirts of Għargħur, where sweeping views of the countryside set the tone for the day. Along the way, Pierre even encounters a few roaming chickens, who also seemed to be enjoying the greenery!

As he continues towards Fort Madliena, Pierre comes across several intriguing remnants from the past, including what appears to be an old well. Approaching the fort’s perimeter ditch, he’s greeted by stunning views stretching out towards Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq and the open sea.

Fort Madliena is a polygonal British fort built between 1878 and 1880 as part of the Victoria Lines, Malta’s historic north-west fortification system. Its impressive architecture and strategic position make it a fascinating stop along the trail.

Pierre then descends into the lush valley, following a scenic pathway shaded by trees. After crossing to the opposite side, he climbs back up, highlighting this particular route as an ideal hike for anyone wanting to explore Malta’s quieter, greener landscapes.

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or simply looking for your next peaceful weekend walk, Wied il-Faħam and its surroundings are definitely worth adding to your list.
