Well done! Over 2 tonnes of trash collected in Żibel’s Floriana coastal clean-up
They found not one, but two toilets on the seabed!

Żibel is back at it – making waves for all the right reasons! In its latest monthly clean-up, the eco-conscious NGO gathered an impressive 2,108 kilos of waste from the coast just below the Excelsior Hotel in Floriana. The initiative brought together 45 dedicated volunteers, including both a land-based team and a group of divers who scoured the seabed for debris.

This time, the ocean floor held a few surprises... Among the usual culprits like plastic, metal, ropes and tyres, divers also retrieved two full-sized toilets and several car batteries, showing just how much human impact is affecting Malta’s marine environments.

A full breakdown of the clean-up haul comprised 659 kg of fishing gear, 130 kg of plastic, 52 kg of glass, a whopping 572 kg of metal and 694 kg of mixed waste.

Żibel’s efforts continue to raise awareness about waste pollution, especially in Malta’s coastal and marine areas. A massive shoutout to the volunteers who showed up and got their hands dirty – quite literally – for a good cause!

Have you ever attended a beach clean-up?
