Well done! Maltese athlete, Fabio Spiteri, claims 2nd overall at the gruelling Deca Taiwan
Maltese endurance athlete Fabio Spiteri has once again pushed the limits of human performance, celebrating an extraordinary podium finish at Deca Taiwan, one of the world’s most gruelling ultra-triathlon events.
In a social media update that quickly drew admiration from supporters, Fabio revealed the scale of the obstacles he faced; a typhoon in Taiwan and an unexpected passport issue in Istanbul before even reaching the start line. Yet none of these setbacks prevented him from securing a remarkable result for Malta.
Competing in the continuous Deca format, the Maltese athlete completed 38 km of swimming, 1,800 km of cycling, and 422 km of running; the equivalent of ten full Ironman triathlons, finishing second overall and first in his age group.
He achieved this monumental feat in 228 hours, averaging just three hours of sleep per day over nine and a half days. His performance further strengthens his reputation as one of Malta’s most accomplished and resilient endurance athletes.
Fabio attributed much of his success to the unwavering support of his small but dedicated crew. He offered special thanks to Philip Cachia, his sole crew member and masseur, whose around-the-clock assistance helped him withstand the physical toll of the event. He also publicly expressed gratitude to the sponsors who have consistently backed his ambitious challenges around the world.
Well done, Fabio!
