Well done! 1.3 tonnes of waste removed from St Julian’s Waterpolo Pitch
Coast is Clear volunteers brave rough conditions to restore popular site.

Over the past few weeks, volunteers have been relentless in their efforts to clean up the local waters and seas after the massive impact left by Storm Harry, leaving marine debris even in waterpolo pitches.

Volunteers from Coast is Clear have removed a staggering 1,336 kilograms of marine debris from the waterpolo pitch at St Julian’s Waterpolo Club, which had been left unusable after the storm.

Battling poor underwater visibility and challenging weather conditions, a dedicated team of divers, snorkellers, kayakers and land volunteers worked tirelessly to clear the site.

They were supported by Raniero's Adventures and Watercolours Dive Centre, in what became a coordinated international effort involving volunteers hailing from all over the world.

This marks the third waterpolo pitch clean-up organised by Coast is Clear in the aftermath of Storm Harry, and the NGO has made it clear they’re not stopping anytime soon.

As storm debris continues to wash into bays and coastal facilities with the continuous rough seas of late, Malta’s environmental volunteers are proving that community action can make a tangible (and weighty!) difference.

Well done to all those involved!
