These 11 hedgehogs were released back into the wild at dusk on Friday following some TLC by Nature Trust Rescue Wildlife Volunteers.
Spacelub managed to capture the beautiful moment when the prickly but totes adorable hedgehogs were relocated to safer grounds at the valley of Ta’ l-Ghejun.
“In near-darkness the hedgehogs were laid gently down at the margins of the farm close to the undergrowth that would lead to a new life in a new habitat. Some smelt the wild instantly and ran off within seconds, others took their sleepy-time to sniff the air and toddle off after a while,” their video caption read.
“It was a magical few minutes shared with Marvic Refalo, Betty Berry, Jess Mercieca Morgan and Victor Muscat that we feel so lucky to have experienced.”
Malta’s qanfud
The hedgehog or "l-qanfud" as it’s known locally, is a protected species in Malta. Nature Trust Volunteer Marvic shared some useful tips in the video on what to do if you find one of these cuties in daylight.
