Blustery conditions! Strong winds prompt yellow warning and travel disruptions across Malta
Gozo Highspeed trips have been cancelled for the rest of today and tomorrow.

The Malta Meteorological Office has placed the Maltese Islands under a yellow alert due to strong winds.

Forecasters say winds are expected to turn northwesterly and intensify, with blustery conditions felt across the islands. The warning remains in force until midnight, though it could be extended if the weather does not improve.

In the coming days, forecasts point to continued windy weather accompanied by isolated showers. Gusts are expected to reach force 6 to 7, prompting advice for both residents and visitors to take extra care. People are encouraged to secure any loose items, be cautious when outdoors, and limit travel in exposed or coastal areas where conditions may be harsher.

In fact, Gozo Highspeed has issued an important service update for Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th January, warning of disruptions due to unfavourable sea conditions. The company announced that the final departure from Valletta today will take place at 2.45pm, while the last crossing from Mġarr will depart at 3.45pm.

Following these sailings, all remaining scheduled trips for today will be cancelled, with all services also suspended throughout Thursday 8 January.

Keep an eye on official weather updates, as conditions could change throughout the week.

Stay safe everyone!
