Time to layer up!

After a run of dusty and unusually warm days, Malta’s first proper wintry weather system is on its way. From late Wednesday morning (7th January), a cold front is expected to reach the central Mediterranean, bringing a noticeable shift in conditions across the islands.

Winds will swing around to the northwest and west-northwest and are set to remain strong well into next week. The windiest days are forecast to be Thursday 8th January and Sunday 11th January, when winds could reach Force 7 to 8. On other days, winds are expected to hover between Force 6 and 7, strong enough to finally clear the lingering fine desert dust from the air.

As for rain, isolated showers are on the cards, with the possibility of hail, particularly on the windiest days.

Temperatures will also drop to more seasonal levels, with daytime highs of 14°C to 17°C and night-time lows between 9°C and 12°C. However, with the strong winds factored in, it’s likely to feel much colder, with real-feel temperatures dipping as low as –2°C, according to Apple Weather.

In short: dust-free skies, blustery days, and a proper taste of winter ahead – time to dig out those warm layers.

How do you plan on spending this chilly weekend?
