Malta’s seas have just welcomed a new friend!

Earlier today, a turtle by the name of ‘Net’ was released back into the wild at Mixquq Bay after undergoing a year-long period of rehabilitation at Forti San Lucjan in Marsaxlokk.

According to netnews.com.mt, Net’s release was marked with a small-scale gathering at the same bay, organised by Foundation for Environmental Education and Nature Trust Malta.

This falls under the ‘Litter Less’ campaign – an international initiative involving schools from all over the globe that is seeking to raise environmental awareness.

Net’s release was witnessed by a number of schoolchildren participating in the EkoSkola programme, by representatives of the campaign’s sponsors, as well as by Minister for Environment, Energy, and Enterprise Miriam Dalli.

A young environmental activist called Liam and Minister Dalli lifted Net out of its box and placed it onto the sand.

After taking in its surroundings, Net made its way to sea as onlookers applauded its efforts.

Good luck, Net!
