WATCH: Gozo hit by surprise thunderstorms last night while the rest of Malta basked in humid heat
The two islands experienced two very different seasons.

While many across Malta were enjoying warm, summer-like weather yesterday evening, our sister island of Gozo was experiencing something quite different – a downpour complete with thunderstorms!

Videos quickly made the rounds on social media, showing rainfall and flashes of lightning lighting up the Gozitan skies. Meanwhile, much of remained completely dry, with locals reporting nothing more than sticky humidity and lingering heat.

This unexpected contrast came as a surprise to many, especially considering how summery recent days have felt. But according to the Maltese Islands Weather Page, this unpredictability is exactly what May is known for.

They shared the Maltese saying ‘Mejju jgħaddi b’ġmiel ommu’ or ‘May is his mother’s fool’, which points to the inconsistent tendencies of this month’s weather.

In fact, the latest weather maps back this up. Experts are predicting that May will remain unstable, with alternating periods of sunny, warm weather and cooler, rainy days, possibly with strong winds too.

So if you’re planning any picnics, beach trips or hikes this month, keep yourself updated on the weather’s moods!

Did you experience last night's storms?
