In the heart-warming message, Gary shares how he’s  been visiting Malta for 27 years, “from the age of 18, when I first came to the country with David Beckham, Chris Casper and Ben Thornley. I had my first alcoholic drink in Paceville, my first shot of tequila, and my first trip to Gianpula – we don’t have outdoor nightclubs here in Manchester!”

He added, “I’ve been back every single year since, one or two times, for one reason and one reason only, and that’s you, the Maltese people.”

Gary, who has two children, Sophie and Molly, with wife Emma Hadfield, expressed how both countries, Malta and the UK, are living this unique situation and “incredibly challenging times”, “but what will count at the end of this and will get us through it is the strength of the people.”

He ended his uplifting message by saying “you’re absolutely wonderful, your hospitality, generosity… the country feels like a family, it’s so heart-warming and we can’t wait to be back with you soon. I’m sure it’s the first place I’ll come after this is over and this virus has left us, so please, stay safe, stay well.”
