The fort was extensively bombed in World War II.

In his latest vlog, Pierre Farrugia took his followers on a ride around the Ricasoli Fort in Kalkara. Since it’s summer and the heat makes hiking unbearable, he opted to explore the iconic fort in his Kayak instead.

Pierre kicked off his trip at the Rinella Bay in Kalkara, hoping to make his way along the coast until he reaches Smart City in Xaghjra.

As he made his way and left the iconic Grand Harbour in Valletta he came across the historic Fort Ricasoli, a fort which is the largest fort in all of Europe.

It was originally built by the Knights of Saint John in 1670 and used throughout many of Malta’s historical events and conflicts.

Unfortunately, it was extensively damaged during World War II due to the constant bombardment Malta experienced.  In fact, the whole fort is surrounded by the many pill boxes used by the British Army during the war.

Pierre was explaining on how the sea right under the fort was a was popular swimming spot when he was still a child but it has since been deemed dangerous to swim in. This was mainly due to the huge metal passageway collapsing.

Pierre also kayaked his way to the stunning caves right under the fort. He dived in with his camera and showed his viewers the many canons that are found underwater, making this the perfect diving site for history lovers.

Eventually he made his way to smart city in Xghajra and showed his viewers this tiny and secluded beach, making it ideal for all those that want to avoid the summer crowds.

Have you ever went exploring at Fort Ricasoli?
