In his latest vlog, local explorer Pierre Farrugia takes his viewers on a journey to discover two lesser-known caves in Zurrieq – the Munqar Cave and the Barbagann Cave.

Taking full advantage of the spring weather, Pierre started his hike from Wied Babu, where one can get a scenic view of Filfla and the Blue Grotto.

The trail leading to both caves is rather dangerous, so you better take extra caution if you’re planning on visiting!

The Munqar Cave – which gets its name from a nearby rock formation resembling a beak (munqar in Maltese) – offers visitors some amazing views and serves as the perfect spot for a quiet, serene picnic overlooking the stunning Maltese sea.

Soon after, Pierre made his way to the adjacent Barbagann Cave, which was somehow even more impressive.

The cave’s unique rock formations and enormous stalactites make it extremely distinctive. Legend goes that this cave got its name from the fact that its shape once resembled that of an owl – barbagann in Maltese.

Have you ever visited the caves?
