WATCH: 8 classic & hilarious Maltese videos that went viral over the years
We’re in fits!

Jillian Mallia

Maltese online culture is a melting pot of memes, reactions, and downright hilarious content. Over the years, some videos have left us in fits and gone viral enough to leave them ingrained in our collective memory for good. Here are our faves!

1. Tad-doughnuts

This one is a #klessik. The bare-chested man eating a doughnut gets to us each time. The guy is munching away on what seems to be yet another doughnut when his partner goes, “Kemm kilt downuts, kemm int hanzir hanina madonna.” The victim (totally baffled and with a mouth full of fried dough goodness), says “x’hamsa, hamsa – tlieta u nofs tat-tifla” defending his case, saying that he only ate three and a half doughnuts (including his daughter’s) as opposed to the claimed five. The mystery remained unsolved.

2. Madonna, Madonna NOOO

This hilarious reaction is a familiar one to many. Stemming from quite the scary situation – a parasailing accident in Mellieha that saw parasailers being swept away by strong wind – in true Maltese fashion, the person behind the camera screams, “Madonna, Madonna NOOO.” Perhaps in an attempt to stop the incident?

3. This is my dog, Rover

Ah, the classic Welcome to Malta video. This video is a dubbed version of an old ad that shows Cali enticing people to come to Malta. And his trusty pooch is by his side through it, too! "I got him from the duuustbins," he says - poor doggo.

4. Titti the diving dog

Titti was an adorable dog who stole the hearts of many with her diving skills. Titti and Carmelo were inseparable and would put on a show at St Peter’s Pool, diving into the sea every summer. Titti unfortunately went to doggie heaven after suffering heart problems early this year, but Carmelo has another companion, Tina who is now in training!

5. Birzebbuga fight

Our favourite quote of this video? “JA MARA RAGEL” - which is basically a harsh insult we ain't gonna repeat in English. The two women are heard arguing profusely on a beach in Birzebbuga which resulted in a full-blown swearing and name-calling showdown. It got so bad; lifeguards had to get involved!

6. The mind-boggling Miss Malta interview

Back in 2011, our Miss Malta gave this interview with the judges of the competition and to this day, we have absolutely no idea what in the world she was trying to say. The only thing we gathered was that she likes Japanese culture because she’s a sushi chef. Oh, and she L O V E S birds. Can you figure it out?

7. Hanzira ommok!

We gotta love a good scare. Maltese kids have mastered the art of scaring their parents to the point that some may even swear – the Maltese way, meaning ha jigbduha wahda sew. What’s funny about this one is that the mother basically insults herself, calling herself a pig in the heat of the moment. The reaction is priceless.

8. Tal-hobz

Workplace shenanigans are always fun to document, especially when it comes to scaring co-workers. This poor guy had to endure being frightened by the loud bang of a metal tray, which lead to a pretty funny reaction.
