If you’re planning a visit to the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum this festive season – whether you’re welcoming friends from abroad or finally ticking this UNESCO World Heritage Site off your list – it’s worth planning ahead.

Due to the closure of Heritage Malta sites on certain dates, last-minute tickets for the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum will not be available for purchase on the following dates: 19th December, 23rd December, 24th December, 31st December & 1st January.

Instead, last-minute tickets will be released on specific earlier dates, depending on when you plan to visit.

Here’s when to buy your tickets, depending on the date of visit:

  • To visit on Saturday December 20th, buy your tickets on Thursday 18th December, due to closure on Friday 19th December.
  • To visit on Friday 26th December, buy your tickets on Monday 22nd December, due to closure on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th December.
  • To visit on Friday 2nd January, buy your tickets on Tuesday 30th December, due to closure on Wednesday 31st December and Thursday 1st January.

On the designated purchase days, tickets can be bought from the Gozo Museum of Archaeology or Fort St Elmo. After 12:00pm, tickets will also be available from the National Museum of Archaeology, Domvs Romana (the Roman Villa) and the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum itself.

As always, availability is limited, so visitors are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid disappointment, especially during the busy festive period when many take the opportunity to get their fill of culture and history.
