A shock to Malta’s racing scene! Frans Tanti, better known as ‘Il-Bugi’, suddenly passed away yesterday following a horse race in Marsa.

Condolences and tributes have since been pouring in for the jockey who was racing in yesterday’s programmed at the Marsa Racetrack in the class Bronze heat. “Thank you for everything, friend,” said one Facebook user.

The Malta Racing Club’s council also offered their condolences to Il-Bugi’s family, especially his wife, Sonia and his two children, Leon and Zeon.

“You were a real gentleman,” said another Facebook user. “Gone but never forgotten. Until we meet again.”

The jockey, together with his mare, was involved in an accident almost at the end of the race. After being assisted by a medical professional, Il-Bugi seemed to be in good condition and made his way off the track. However, he reportedly later fainted in the stables and was certified dead straight away. The official cause of death hasn’t been revealed yet.
