Brace yourselves! First week of March brings strong winds and rain to Malta & Gozo
Unstable weather ahead!

Francesca Vella

Although meteorological spring officially started on Saturday 1st March, the islands are facing some wintry weather in the coming week! Strong winds coming in from the east and southeast means rough seas in the harbour, particularly today, Thursday 6th and Friday 7th March – so expect potential disruptions to sea travel!

There will be rainy episodes too! Isolated showers are possible tonight and late on Wednesday 5th March, but the heaviest and most widespread rainfall is expected on Friday 7th March, with forecasts predicting a whopping 20 mm to 35 mm of rain across the islands. Both the rain and rough seas are expected to continue through to the first half of Saturday, so it looks like it’s going to be a wet start to the upcoming weekend!

Maltese Islands weather featured a photo captured yesterday of very particular clouds spotted in Dingli that predict precisely this instability, that go by the name of 'Mammatus' - Latin for 'cow's udders' - due to their very particular shape!

With high humidity and strong winds in play, nighttime temperatures of 10°C to 13°C will feel much colder than they actually are. On Wednesday, the real feel temperature could drop to a chilly 7°C, making for a frosty night! So, don’t pack away those jackets just yet – you’ll still need them!

Are you excited for some more rain, or ready for spring?
