Local radio veteran Terry Farrugia needs our help. Friends of Terry and a number of media personalities have launched a crowdfunding page to help the legend of Maltese radio continue his (expensive) battle with a rare form of cancer.

A little bit about Terry

Terry and his wife, Krista, share two adorable boys aged eight and 10. Terry began his local radio career in the early 1990s with his popular programme Terry Time. He then moved his radio show to Bay Radio, delving into management and later ventured on to 88.7 Vibe FM, and has been running the radio station since 2009. He has also trained various local presenters and supported local bands. Terry had an influential role in launching Malta's radio awards that recognise local talent, the BMAs, with all proceeds raised being shared among a number of children’s charities.

His battle with leukaemia

The Terry Time Trust has been set up to help raise the €500,000 that Terry and his family needs to continue with the rasio veteran's treatment. Terry was first diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in 2016 and has undergone four rounds of chemotherapy since, and was in dire need of a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, there was no match. His only option was to have a transplant in the UK from cord blood that provides a finite amount of stem cells. He underwent a transplant in March 2018 which involved more chemo and radiotherapy.

Since then though, he has had another two relapses, and is currently in Houston, Texas for further treatment. But naturally, the financial burden is huge. The only way for this treatment to go on is for Terry’s family to cover the expenses, after having been supported by various NGOs, close friends of the family, and parents from San Anton School and Melita Football Club.
