The first-ever trailer for Amazon Prime film ‘Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher’, partially shot in Malta, has just been released.

This highly anticipated flick stars beloved Kiwi actor Russell Crowe, who made headlines last November upon returning to Malta to shoot said film.

Before that, Crowe had last been in Malta to shoot Oscar-winning epic ‘Gladiator’ in the late 90s.

The trailer for ‘Prizefighter’ briefly features a shot showing what looks like the Maltese sea. A tavern scene featuring a handful of Maltese actors also made it to said trailer.

Local artists involved in said film include Steffi Thake, Julia Calvert, and Francesca Scerri.

‘Prize Fighter: The Life of Jem Belcher’ is a biographical drama that deals with the birth of boxing, focusing mainly on Jem Belcher, the man who became the youngest ever boxing world champion, was blind at 22, and dead by the age of 30.

Russell Crowe is playing Jem Belcher’s grandfather, Jack Slack also known as ‘The Norfolk Butcher’ and the ‘Knight of the Cleaver’ who was a prolific fighter in the mid 1700’s.

The film is set to be released on 22nd July on Amazon Prime Video, which is available here in Malta.
