‘Tis the season! A guide to getting through a Maltese Christmas
Brace yourselves for one wild Christmas ride!

Jillian Mallia

Maltese Christmases are like rollercoasters, with highs and lows and twists and turns, that eventually (thankfully) comes to an end. Spending Christmas with a Maltese family? Here’s a guide of what to expect!

1. Prepare to eat great food (and lots of it)

Every Maltese nanna is going to pull out all the stops: the welcome drink, the nibbles, the entree, the soup, the main attraction, delicious dessert and coffee. Food comas are 100% guaranteed.

2. Skip breakfast

As per the extensive menu listed above, you’re in for a whole day of stuffing your face with scrumptious food, so you might want to give your breakfast a miss.

3. Don’t wear tight clothing

By the end of the day, your jeans buttons will be undone and zips unzipped, and we all know it’s not the best feeling. So opt for comfy clothing – it also hides that food baby you’re bound to have, so win-win!

4. Reminiscing 101

Get ready for old photo albums and embarrassing childhood pictures to be brought out of storage, especially if your significant other is coming over for Christmas lunch for the first time.

5. Hydrate between courses

Whether it’s water, kinnie, or a glass of booze, don’t forget to hydrate and wash down all the food you’re bound to eat.

We wish you the best of luck getting through a Maltese Christmas. Comment down below if you’re still alive at the end of the day!
