Throwback alert! Can you guess which popular Birkirkara street this is?
A stunning shot!

Do you recognise this busy Birkirkara street? While it truly has changed over the years, this street is none other than Triq il-Wied (Valley Road). But can you pinpoint exactly where?

This part of the road goes past St Aloysius and leads to the roundabout near what is now Costa Coffee. The road on the right takes you to San Anton and Attard, while the road on the left is the Balzan route.

Commenting on the post shared to a history group, locals shared some memories of the lesser busy street back in the day. “The house on the left Dr Vella Bardon used to live there,” said on local. “I remember there used to be a butcher shop on the corner.”

Other locals also recall there being a shelter and a huge underwater storage facility on opposite sides of the road. Others also remember establishments predating Costa Coffee including Papillon, Tony Borg Bonaci and another shop that stood on the site of a large cave.

The familiarity of this road is comforting, with most buildings (apart from the Costa Coffee side) still being relatively intact. Hopefully, it will remain the same for years to come.
