The first full week of May is here and a recent update from Temp Madwarna is outlining a shifting weather pattern for the Maltese Islands in the coming days, driven by a high-pressure system currently positioned over Libya.
As this system moves eastwards, southerly winds are expected to dominate much of the week, bringing noticeable changes in both sky conditions and temperatures.
The week will begin on a relatively calm note, with partly cloudy skies on Monday, followed by increased cloud cover on Tuesday. By midweek, conditions are forecast to become more unsettled, with cloudy and sandy weather expected on Wednesday and Thursday. This is likely due to dust being carried from North Africa by strengthening southeasterly winds, which will peak in intensity on Thursday before gradually easing.
From Friday onward, clearer skies will return, offering mostly sunny conditions. However, the weekend will see clouds building up again, accompanied by warmer temperatures. Daytime highs are expected to rise steadily from around 22°C early in the week to approximately 26°C by Sunday, signaling a shift toward more summery conditions. Nighttime lows will also climb, ranging between 12°C and 18°C.
Wind patterns will vary throughout the week, starting light from the south and becoming stronger midweek before calming again. Sea temperatures, currently around 19°C, are also on a gradual upward trend.
Overall, the forecast points to a dynamic week, with a mix of cloud, dust, wind, and warming temperatures shaping the local weather.
