Third one this month! Turtle Manuela rescued by Nature Trust in Xlendi
Some marks on her flipper showed that Manuela was recently entangled in debris

Francesca Vella

Earlier today, a small turtle was spotted floating at the surface of the water in Xlendi by a nearby fisherman. After noting that the animal might be injured, the fisherman contacted Nature Trust Gozo, who, after establishing that the turtle remained at the surface even when stimulated, started the process to bring it in to safety.

The turtle, later given the name Manuela, was the third one saved this month – a reminder that being observant when in nature can potentially save lives! Although Manuela wasn’t entangled at the time of rescue, on closer inspection, some markings on one of her flippers showed that she had been recently entangled in some debris.

Manuela is now at the Xrobb L-Ghagin Nature Park and Wildlife Rehab Centre to determine why she currently isn’t diving, and for subsequent treatment.

The Wildlife Rescue Team expressed gratitude towards the Gozo Channel for their assistance in transporting injured turtles as quickly as possible to Malta.

Wishing little Manuela a speedy recovery!
