Santa on a sleigh being pulled by his reindeers is the ultimate classic Christmas sight. It’s everywhere, from Christmas cards to big lit-up plastic figures on our balconies to the occasional cameo in a crib, but we can all agree that the standard visual has been a bit exhausted. That’s where Maltese creativity has kicked in over the years, with a variation of amusing and jaw-dropping results. Have a look!
Go big or go home!
This statement pretty much sums up Malta's general attitude and it has recently been extended to include Christmas celebrations. With Santa abseiling down Birzebbugia’s parish church facade before mounting an enormous sleigh with a gigantic Christmas tree in the boot, this massive reimagining is one thing we didn't know we needed!
Ditch the reindeers!
As a small island, attempting a sleigh landing may be difficult. Arriving by boat might prove the more practical solution ...
Land ahoy!
...or maybe not.
Hot wheels!
We don't blame this Santa for making use of a car to tow his sleigh around the streets of Malta - I'm pretty sure Rudolph and crew would appreciate a small break.
Scuba diving Santa
Visitors to the National Aquarium were in for a treat last year when they spotted Santa bobbing along with the marine life. He treated the fish in the tank to some treats before getting back on his sleigh and whizzing off to the next location.
