A striking transformation was recently shared by the Department of Malta on social media: a side-by-side photo of Il-Loġġa tal-Palju, proudly overlooking Saqqajja Hill in Rabat. One image dates back to the 1960s, while the other captures the iconic structure today, following a stunning restoration.

Originally built in 1696 for Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt, Il-Loġġa tal-Palju has long been a symbolic part of Maltese heritage. For centuries, it has stood witness to the vibrant celebrations of Imnarja, one of Malta’s oldest traditional feasts, where community, competition, and culture meet.

Once weathered by time, the landmark has now been beautifully restored to its former glory, with its intricate architectural details preserved and its presence rejuvenated.

This restoration is more than just an aesthetic revival. It reinforces the values that Il-Loġġa tal-Palju represents; fair play, unity, and the enduring spirit of tradition. It’s a reminder of the stories Malta’s heritage continues to tell - rooted in the past but ever present in the nation’s heart.

Did you know about the history behind Il-Loġġa tal-Palju?
