The best beaches for a jellyfish-free swim today (and ones to avoid!)
Lots of jellies have been spotted in Malta’s beaches today, but stay calm, there’s no need to cancel your beach day just yet!

No one likes being stung by a jellyfish, or tiptoeing around the sneaky buggers on an otherwise great beach day. So when the news hit of a jellyfish warning in many beaches in Malta and Gozo, the collective sigh of disappointment was heard across the islands. But it’s a glorious August Friday, and there’s no need to pack your swimming trunks away just yet!

According to Malta Weather’s super handy jelly map (am I the only one that finds that name brilliant?), there are still loads of beaches that you can head to today, jelly-free! Calculated according to wind direction, wind speed, wave direction, swell direction and sea surface currents, the map is said to be 70 per cent accurate, so it’s still good to always be vigilant before diving in.

In Malta, the picturesque Fomm ir-Rih Bay, Gnejna Bay, Ghajn Tuffieha Bay, Golden Bay and Anchor Bay in the north are among the safe spots, as well as Exiles, Paradise Bay, Armier Bay, Ramla tal-Bir Bay, Rinella Bay, St Paul's Bay and Bugibba. Basically, it’s best if you avoid going for a dip in the south of the island today!

Meanwhile, for a jellyfish-free good time on the sister island, head to Xlendi Bay, Dwejra Bay, Qbajjar Bay, Marsalforn Bay, Ramla Bay or San Blas – see, plenty of options for your beach day! The map is updated regularly, so make sure to check it out before you head off.

And with gorgeous swimming spots like this on the menu, we can’t think of a better way to kick off another sunny, summer weekend! Enjoy and be safe!
