Step into the magic! The Nutcracker makes its enchanting return to Teatru Manoel this December
The production will be running from the 8th to the 12th of December.
Teatru Manoel is set to welcome the festive season with the enchanting return of Moveo Dance Company’s original interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s timeless ballet, The Nutcracker. Running from Monday 8th December to Friday 12th December, the production will feature daily evening performances at 7:30pm, as well as a special matinee on Monday at 4:30pm - offering audiences multiple opportunities to experience this beloved Christmas classic.
This fresh take on The Nutcracker is choreographed and directed by Dorian Mallia, whose artistic direction, shared with co-leader Diane Portelli, has shaped Moveo Dance Company into one of Malta’s most innovative contemporary dance ensembles.
This year’s cast features a dynamic blend of emerging talent and experienced dancers, with members of the Moveo Junior Company performing alongside Moveo apprentices and professionals. Lara Mizzi will be stepping into the role of Clara, while Zashaya Zammit will portray the Nutcracker.
Audiences can expect a production that has grown significantly since last year. A brand-new set design by Aleksandra Idowiak transforms Teatru Manoel’s stage into a dream-like toyshop filled with whimsy and wonder.
Adding to the excitement is new choreography, including the highly anticipated addition of the Sugar Plum Fairy’s iconic Pas de Deux - an elegant nod to classical ballet that beautifully complements Moveo’s contemporary movement language.
The enduring charm of The Nutcracker lies in its universal appeal. Tchaikovsky’s celebrated score, paired with Mallia’s imaginative choreography, makes the production perfect for families, first-time ballet-goers, and seasoned dance enthusiasts alike. Its familiar story and magical atmosphere ensure accessibility, while the refined artistry promises a fresh and captivating experience.
Across six performances, audiences can immerse themselves in this festive favourite, which runs approximately 75 minutes with no interval.
Tickets, priced between €10 and €30, are available online at teatrumanoel.mt or directly from the Teatru Manoel Box Office in person or by phone at (+356) 21246389.
