Rabat’s streets will once again come alive with festive lights, carols, and the scent of artisanal goodies as the much-loved Natalis Notabilis returns for its seventh edition between 5th and 14th December.

Organised by NGO Natalis Notabilis in collaboration with VisitMalta.com, the Rabat Local Council, and the Ministry for Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector, this unique event has become a highlight of Malta’s festive calendar.

First held in 2016, Natalis Notabilis has since grown into one of the island’s most sought-after events, even earning great interest from international visitors. But as Natalis Notabilis Secretary Charlo Vassallo explains, its charm lies in its authenticity, a true Christmas market that features both the warmth of Maltese hospitality and the spirit of the season.

“We make it a point to preserve the authenticity of Natalis Notabilis, placing emphasis on the elements that distinguish it as a Christmas market,” Charlo explains. “It is a celebration that brings artisans, performers, volunteers, and visitors together in the magical setting that is the heart of Rabat.”

At its core, Natalis Notabilis remains faithful to the traditional Central European market format, with over 100 stalls set up across the historic Rabat streetscape. “Each stall has been carefully selected from more than 300 applicants, ensuring a curated mix of handcrafted gifts, artisanal creations, and festive treats. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover unique items and support Maltese makers during the festive season,” Charlo notes.

Food lovers, too, are in for a treat as they will be able to sample traditional Christmas delicacies, sweet pastries, as well as international street food to complete the unique festive offering.

Beyond the market, Natalis Notabilis offers a programme of cultural attractions for all the family which make it truly special. The Imtarfa Drama Group will once again present its signature Presepju Ħaj, a moving live nativity performance set within the iconic gardens of the Franciscan monastery.

“What makes this performance even more special is that this is the only time when the public will be able to visit these beautiful gardens throughout the year,” Charlo points out.

Children will be delighted to visit Santa Claus’ House in the dedicated kids’ area, while the Joy Gospel Choir will fill the Church of St Joseph with uplifting carols and Christmas classics.

Meanwhile, visitors can explore an extraordinary exhibition at Palazzo Xara, where renowned Neapolitan master Salvatore Di Francesco will showcase his artistic pasturi (nativity figurines). Hosted in the main hall of the Għaqda Mużikali L’Isle Adam A.D. 1860, this year’s display promises to be the largest and most impressive selection yet, offering a chance to take home a piece of nativity art.

To render the experience enjoyable from the very start, there will be a Park and Ride service in Triq it-Tiġrija, just below Mdina, ferrying visitors to the heart of Natalis Notabilis, ensuring hassle-free parking and convenient access to the bustling heart of Rabat.

Best of all, entrance is completely free! Full-day events will be held on 6th, 7th, 8th, 13th, and 14th December from 11am. On remaining days, Natalis Notabilis will be open in the evenings. Whatever time you choose to attend, what's sure is that a visit to Natalis Notabilis can be the perfect way to round off hectic festive days. nestled under the Christmas lights with family and friends.
