A little bit about Fr Hilary
Fr Hilary was born on this day in 1934 in Hal Tarxien and was always a very active person in society, having been part of the youth organisation of Tarxien’s Oratory. His vocational calling came to him at just age 16.

As the years rolled on, his passion for football grew and he delved into the world of sports as best he could since he couldn’t fulfil his dream of becoming a professional football player. The Augustinian also coached the Hibernians, also known as Hibs (a local football team), between 1964 and 1970, and also formed part of administrating the national team.

He was also the brains behind the opening of various football nurseries around the island that allowed kids to practice sports such as football, basketball, gymnastics and athletics. Fr Hilary even was a sports journalist and get this - he was good friends with the legendary Brazilian footballer, Pele. Can you believe it?!

The Millenium Chapel
The football-loving priest is the founder of the Millenium Chapel located in the heart of Paceville, which he described as “the fruit of my life” in a 2014 interview with The Malta Independent. He firmly believes that “God created man with both a body and a soul and sport helps us stay healthy in body, mind and spirit.”
