Slaying it, Zibel! Local NGO introduces 10 new seabins across the Maltese Islands
Zibel are making Malta’s seas cleaner and greener one seabin at a time! “There are good days, and there are great days!” the local environmental NGO said, announcing that 10 new seabins will be distributed across Malta.
“These 10 seabins will be added to our fleet and help us on our way to create one of the world’s most comprehensive microplastic data collection and debris capturing systems, in conjunction with other Zibel projects,” they said in a post on Facebook. A rep told us that while specific areas haven't been determined as they are still "in talks with advisors," the bins will be placed in "priority areas like major harbours and marinas."
Last August, Zibel introduced Europe’s first solar-powered seabin at Spinola Bay. A spokesperson from the organisation had told us the seabin “creates a flow of water and sucks everything in. The water is then pumped back out and the plastic of debris remains inside the bin.” The first seabin was introduced at Spinola since it is a prime location that generates a lot of waste, what with many locals and visitors hitting the St Julian’s streets on the daily.
Keep up the great stuff, Zibel!
