Cool stuff! Zibel launches Europe’s FIRST solar-powered Seabin at Spinola Bay
And it's not the last one!

Now this is awesome! Zibel, a local environmental conservation organisation, have launched Europe’s first ever solar-powered Seabin. How cool is that?

“Located in Spinola Bay, this Seabin is the first in Europe to be powered only by solar energy,” they say in a Facebook post - something we’ve got plenty of here on the Maltese Islands! “This not only makes the unit independent but allows us to place the Seabin in tricky locations where power supply is an issue, opening more possibilities in the future.”

So how does this intriguing contraption work? A spokesperson for the organisation said that “it creates a flow of water and sucks everything in. The water is then pumped back out and the plastic or debris remains inside the bin. We then empty the Seabins and collect the date and rubbish about every two days.” #SmartStuff.

The spokesperson also said that this kicks off the installation project of about five other Seabins across the Maltese Islands, starting off with Spinola due to high population numbers and celebrations held there, which produce quite a lot of waste. "This ties in with our long-term plan for the Maltese Islands. We’ve got loads more cool stuff in store, so stay tuned!"

Have you seen the cool new Seabin yet?
