The entrance to Senglea (also known as Isla, or one of the Three Cities) has been transformed, with a major regeneration project now officially inaugurated.
Led by the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation (GHRC), the project focused on restoring and revitalising the iconic Fort St Michael bastions and surrounding areas. The initiative was carried out in four phases and included the restoration of several historic and architectural features, such as the gateway to the fort, the iconic clock tower, Gardjola, and Pjazza Mitrovich, which also received new paving.

A rebuilt staircase now connects the square to the nearby school, and a new public pjazza was created for community use. Significant work was also carried out on the structures providing public access to the belvedere area, offering sweeping views over the Grand Harbour.
As part of the restoration, previously unused rooms were also discovered and repurposed into a day centre for elderly residents, managed by the Senglea Local Council. This new centre will also host exhibitions and local social activities.

This project marks a significant milestone in Senglea’s ongoing transformation, where the echoes of the past meet the bustling energy of today.
