Italian journal La Repubblica seems to have its eye on Malta, as it has once again reported on more clusters being recorded after the cases visited Malta while on holiday.

“They were on vacation, they went to clubs, they would have gone to the disco,” Canicattini Bagni Mayor says in a statement. “Seeing the images on social media I don’t think that there are many checks in Malta.”

It is being reported that two boys within the group – who flew from Catania to Malta on 2nd August and back on 6th August – told doctors that they were experiencing symptoms. The next day a girl from the same group developed a fever. They all tested positive for COVID, and once that happened, the rest of the group were tested too. Out of the 13 youngsters, 11 tested positive.

La Repubblica also note our cluster related to Paceville, saying that new cases pop up everyday which has lead authorities to introducing fines for mass events. “The island state currently ranks fourth in the European Union in terms of cases per 100,000 people registered in the last 14 days,” La Repubblica notes. “Only Luxembourg, Spain and Belgium have higher patient numbers according to the European Centre for Disease Control.”
