‘Seeing Music’: An upcoming exhibition by late Maltese artist offering a unique fusion of art and music
The exhibition will take place between the 7th of March and the 11th of April.
It’s time to see some music! The Malta Society of Arts recently announced an upcoming exhibition titled, ‘Seeing Music,’ showcasing the extraordinary works of the late artist Frank Briffa. It will take place at the MSA’s Art Galleries between the 7th of March and the 11th of April.

This collection of around 30 oils on canvas marks the first time Frank Briffa's art will be exhibited in Malta, offering viewers a glimpse into his unique fusion of visual art and musical inspiration. Born in Egypt to a Maltese father and Italian mother, the artist's multicultural upbringing deeply influenced his artistic journey, which thrived in the vibrant cultural landscape of London.
Curated by Frank Briffa's widow, Anne, ‘Seeing Music’ reflects her commitment to sharing her husband's legacy with a wider audience. Anne's personal anecdotes offer insight into Frank's rich background, shaped by a family fluent in Maltese, Italian, and Arabic.

A self-taught artist, Frank's passion for music and science permeates his work, evident in pieces inspired by composers such as Nielsen, Mahler, and Bach.
The exhibition invites visitors to explore Frank's unique approach to painting, where music serves as both muse and medium. From evocative landscapes to abstract compositions, each artwork resonates with the rhythm and emotion of the music that inspired it.
Highlights include "Sibelius 5," capturing the dramatic finale of Sibelius' Symphony No. 5, and "The Creatures of Prometheus," a series inspired by Beethoven's ballet of the same name.

‘Seeing Music’ promises to be an extremely interesting cultural journey, inviting audiences to experience the harmonious blend of sound and colour through the eyes of a visionary artist.
