This nostalgic photograph posted on a Facebook group ‘Malta buses’ captures a charming street scene in Sliema, Malta, offering a glimpse into the island’s transport heritage.

Along the picturesque seafront, the image shows the iconic green and white vintage Maltese bus passing by the beach and the distinctive Tower Palace Hotel. These beautifully crafted buses, once a symbol of Maltese life, were individually owned and decorated by their drivers, each with its own unique character and flair.

For decades, they formed the heart of Malta’s public transport network, carrying both locals and visitors through the island’s bustling streets.

Their distinctive look and sound became a familiar part of daily life until 2011, when they were replaced by a modern fleet.

This photograph likely dates from that earlier era, preserving a snapshot of Sliema’s coastal charm and the colourful personality of Malta’s transport history.

Do you remember these colourful buses?
