Remember 22-year-old Brownie? This Maltese pooch might actually be the oldest dog in the world!
Cutie!

Earlier this year, we shared the adorable story of Brownie, the pooch that would be turning 22 this year (that’s 154 years in human years!). Earlier this week, his mama, Denise Fenech, posted to the popular animal group RUBS Puppy Love in hopes of finding out whether her Brownie is the oldest dog in Malta.

“I had tried contacting SPCA Floriana, but they have no information as at that time they did not have any records,” Denise tells us. Brownie was welcomed into their family on Denise’s 16th birthday. Denise isn’t sure whether Brownie is indeed the oldest dog in Malta, but no one has come forward mentioning other dogs. But, she wants to find out for a fact.

This prompted a search to see whether Brownie is one of the oldest (or possibly the oldest) dog in the world. A quick Google search reveals that the oldest dog to have ever lived was Bluey, who lived to be 29 years and 160 days, but passed away in 1939. Unofficially, there was another dog named Maggie who lived to be 30, but passed in 2016. Due to the loss of paperwork, she wasn’t named as the oldest dog to have ever lived.

According to Indian news channel Republic TV it seems like UK’s Queenie, a terrier is the oldest dog on record. But with Brownie being 22-and-a-half, could it mean that this Maltese doggo takes the lead?

Considering that no records were kept all those years ago, Denise doesn’t have official documentation. The earliest record she’s got is a vaccine card that dates back to 2003. “I don’t know where I need to check,” she told us, sharing she has no clue where to start from, but would love to get the confirmation.

Currently, Brownie is on steroids after having problems with standing up. “They worked,” Denise shared. “He’s walking and standing up by himself and he’s not in pain.” The pooch, despite being technically 154 years old (human years) loves to play around and watches neighbours go by up in the balcony. A true Malteser if you ask us!

What can Denise do to find official documentation? Can you help?
