A red weather warning has been issued across the Maltese Islands as strong to very strong winds are expected to batter the country through the night and into tomorrow morning, with conditions forecast to persist until 6:00 a.m.

The Civil Protection Malta has urged the public to exercise extreme caution amid potentially dangerous weather and rough seas.

Residents are advised to avoid working at heights, including rooftops, balconies, scaffolding, and other exposed structures, where gusts could pose serious risks. Coastal areas are also considered hazardous, with authorities warning people to stay away from shorelines and breakwaters due to high waves and turbulent sea conditions.

Loose outdoor objects should be secured to prevent them from becoming airborne, while drivers are encouraged to proceed carefully, particularly in open areas where sudden crosswinds may occur.

The severe weather has already affected sea travel. Gozo Highspeed announced the suspension of services due to unfavourable sea conditions. The final trips today will depart Valletta at 11:45 a.m. and Mġarr at 12:45 p.m., with no further crossings scheduled until further notice.

Are the strong winds affecting your plans today?
