Reaching milestones! Maltese rugby team prepares for first-ever European showdown against Italy
The two teams last met on Australian soil last October, where Italy claimed a decisive victory over Malta
The Malta Rugby League has announced that the national rugby team will be facing off against Italy on September 28th, when the two teams will meet on European soil for the first time, competing for the Medieval Shield. The rugby league international test match will take place in Bagnaria Arsa, a commune approximately 100km outside of Venice, near Udine.
The two teams previously faced off in Australia last October, with Italy securing a 38-12 victory over Malta. However, their upcoming match will mark the first time they meet on European soil, giving the Maltese squad renewed hope for a stronger performance this time around.
Malta is scheduled to host Italy in a more advanced stage of the league, in 2025. With both teams ranked within the top 15 of the international rugby league world rankings, their upcoming clash on Italian soil next month promises to be an exciting and highly competitive match.
Good luck Team Malta!
