Poor Monty! Hedgehog rescued in Gozo after a mechanical grass trimmer injury
He was picked up from Nadur.

A hedgehog was recently rescued by Nature Trust from Nadur in Gozo after being hit by a suspected strimmer (mechanical grass trimmer).

The volunteers that rescued him cutely named him Monty.

Although the injuries were quite severe, Monty is now doing much better. They rescued him quite quickly after he sustained the injury, so no infection had taken over just yet.

“The wound is healing really well and we are now waiting for the new skin to form under the scab”, Nature Trust revealed.

They also originally suspected that Monty might have suffered from brain damage as a result of the incident but thankfully this does not seem to be the case.

Nature Trust went on to appeal that all those who wish to cut grass should use other methods that might not be as harmful to local wildlife.

“If a strimmer must be used, then please please take a few minutes to check the grass first. Hedgehogs tend to curl up and not move when they feel threatened, they don't usually run away!”, they continued to appeal.

Hedgehogs tend to sleep during the day and rest in bushes or grass, which puts them directly in harm’s way.

When spotting an injured hedgehog, please contact the Wildlife Rescue Team on 99999505.
