Have you started planning your summer holidays yet? The Malta International Airport has just published its flight schedule for the upcoming summer season and it features some interesting new destinations.

The most notable development is the launch of Delta Airlines’ flights to New York, making it the first ever American carrier to operate direct flights to Malta.

Between June and October, it will operate three direct flights a week between Malta and the Big Apple.

However, there are other interesting destinations.

Norwegian will launch a new route to Billund, Denmark, home to the famous Legoland park, and increase frequencies on its flights to Oslo and Helsinki.

Ryanair will also extend its direct flights to Gothenburg, Sweden into the summer season, while Air Baltic will double its frequency of flights to Tallinn, increasing services from once to twice weekly.

Closer to home, WizzAir will continue flying to Tirana, extending a route that was launched in the winter, while Ryanair will operate a new route to the Albanian capital.

KM Malta Airlines is also set to launch direct flights to Tel Aviv but it is closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East.

And in the UK, easyJet will launch new connections to Glasgow and Newcastle while Jet2 will operate a new route to London Gatwick.

The UK remains one of Malta International Airport’s main markets, ranking as the second largest in February with a market share of 18.1%, closely following Italy, which accounted for 18.2% of total traffic.

A total of 658,328 passengers travelled through Malta International Airport in February, with daily traffic peaking at 30,875 movements on the 15th, as the Carnival and Valentine’s Day festivities over the weekend drew to a close.
