The team selected to represent Malta at the 2024 Paralympic Games has been announced by the Malta Paralympic Committee, ahead of the Games opening ceremony on 28th August. Maja Theuma will be competing in swimming and Antonio Flores will be running, both bearing the Maltese flag.

Maja Theuma has been swimming competitively for the past 6 years, having participated in national championships and major international competitions, including the Para Swimming European and World Championships. The skilled swimmer has also set national records in the S6 Para swimming class which were made official last month, in the freestyle (50m, 100m, 200m and 400m) and backstroke (50m and 100m) events.

Antonio Flores is a seasoned athlete with over 15 years experience in the sport, and is one of Malta’s longest-standing competitive Para athletes. He has represented Malta at major championships, both locally and on an international level, including the World Para Athletics Gran Prix events.

This is not Antonio’s first rodeo at the Paralympic Games, as he competed at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games in the ‘T-44’ class, before undergoing an amputation in 2017 following medical complications. This year, he will be competing in the ‘T64’ class, the single-leg amputee blade running event.

The two athletes are joined by Coach Edward Caruana Dingli, the Team Doctor Dr. Danica Bonello Spiteri and candidate for the International Paralympic Committee Athletes’ Council elections, MPC Treasurer Vladyslava Kravchenko, a two-time Paralympian who represented Malta in Para swimming at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
