Outstanding performance! Maltese athlete, Rylee Borg, sets new national record at European Junior Championships
Maltese weightlifter Rylee Borg delivered a remarkable performance at the European Junior Championships, competing in the 88kg B category as the final athlete on the platform.
Rylee began strong, successfully lifting 122kg in his opening snatch and following it up with 125kg on his second attempt. Although his third lift at 127kg was narrowly missed, he secured fourth place in the snatch segment - a promising start for the young athlete.
In the clean and jerk, the Maltese athlete showcased resilience and power. After confidently lifting 153kg and 157kg, he faced intense competition from Austria and Latvia. Refusing to back down, Rylee executed a flawless 161kg clean and jerk on his final attempt; a new national record and a moment of pride for Maltese weightlifting.
With a total of 286kg, Rylee placed fourth overall in the 88kg B group, just shy of the podium. Austria and Latvia shared the lead with 291kg, followed by the Czech Republic at 289kg.
Well done, Rylee!
