A tiny hedgehog rescued from Qala is making remarkable progress thanks to the dedicated efforts of volunteers at Nature Trust Malta's Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.

Named Laura, the young hedgehog arrived at the centre underweight and too small to survive on her own in the wild. Since then, she has been receiving round-the-clock care from experienced wildlife rehabilitators, although her recovery has come with one amusing challenge - she's become known as a rather fussy eater.

Despite her selective appetite, Laura is now steadily gaining weight and has reached 319 grams, an encouraging milestone on her journey back to health. With every meal, she grows stronger, bringing her one step closer to the ultimate goal of every wildlife rescue: returning safely to her natural habitat.

Nature Trust Malta reminded the public that all native wildlife rescued by the organisation are protected species. It is illegal to harm these animals or keep them as pets. The charity's trained volunteers hold wildlife handling permits and have the necessary expertise and equipment to rescue injured or vulnerable animals across the Maltese Islands.
