One of Malta’s best known pianists, Cynthia Turner passes away, aged 88

Local icon and one of Malta’s best known pianists, Cynthia Turner has passed away after reportedly contracting COVID-19. She was 88 years of age.

Turner performed on a number of stages, both local and foreign, as well as on radio and TV in both Malta and abroad, including Italy, Germany, France and Egypt. In 1967, she even performed for the Queen and Prince Philip at the prestigious Manoel Theatre.

Turner was born in 1932 in Valletta and attended Convent of the Sacred Heart. She was an associate of London’s Royal Academy of Music and in 2004, she was made a member of the National Order of Merit which is one of the islands’ highest honours.
