One for the puppers! 5 spots to walk your dog in Malta & Gozo this autumn
Walks with pupper never felt so good.

Kristina Cassar Dowling

Dogs love a good walk, and so should their human counterparts. Although the chill of Autumn (much like the heat of summer), may prevent us from taking man’s best friend on his daily adventure, these five spots might change your mind.

1. Buskett

Family classic and Sunday regular for many Maltese dog owners. The Maltese woodland, no matter how miniscule compared to the rest of the European forests, serves the country well enough for a casual Sunday picnic or midweek stroll. Your pup will love Buskett too; the long open space allows your dog the freedom to scavenge, or to hunt down his next favourite stick perhaps.

2. Sliema promenade

Another classic, more adept for the summer months but equally suited for the autumn. The Sliema promenade provides your dog with a routine walk that channels his energy to regular exercise and a release of house dog boredom. Plan your Sliema walk around your pup’s zoomies, win win for both of you!

3. Xlendi promenade

A Gozo walk in Xlendi can't be more autumny! Starting off in the entertainment area where a great number of restaurants eagerly haul in their next load of diners, up past the sunbathing area and across the route to a final spot where all that’s left ahead of you and your doggo is a vast body of sea, hopefully with a stunning sunset to end your day.

4. Chadwick Lakes

Get your wellies ready for this one as Chadwick Lakes can be a muddy mess for both you and your mutt - but the fun and excitement will tire your pooch, so you’ll thank us for this eventually! Take any route and follow any path... Chadwick Lakes is full of super spots that should be discovered and there’s no right or wrong here, just oodles of fun followed by a well needed scrub down.

5. Mellieha Bay

Last on our list is Mellieha Bay - the long stretch of sandy beach closed off to dogs during the summer months but back in business come Autumn. Get your pet an extendable leash and give him some freedom on the autumn sand. He may even opt to dip his paws into the sea if the waves aren’t too big.

Autumn walks are the best. It’s not too hot to call off the adventure early, neither is it too cold to huddle in a corner for shelter. Be sure to pack a couple of poo bags, a warm towel to dry pupper up and a good supply of water - he’ll be panting like its August again!
