5 scenic walks to burn off the Christmas calories in Malta & Gozo
Move that ass kids, you’ve had your fun!

Kristina Cassar Dowling

New year, new me… am I right? As cliché as that might sound; we’re all thinking about the mass of food we ate during the holidays. And if it’s not the food, then it must be the booze or the chocolate. Getting back in shape after the festive binger is all about diving head first into the beautiful scenery of the Maltese islands. Here’s you January choice.

Wardija, St Paul’s Bay

This one’s for the turkey. A quick trek up to Wardija hilltop never hurt anyone; especially if your belt buckle needed that little bit of resistance this morning. Head to St Paul’s Bay where the seaside inspires and the view from Wardija’s peak is worth every cry for help.

Ras Id-Dawwara, Rabat

This one’s for the stuffing. Stuff yourself with this incredible view in 2019. Head to the Rabat cliffs where this rural old-school village somehow manages to cram in some sea views amidst all its beauty. The brave will even venture up and down the killer hill on foot - depends on how many servings you actually consumed I guess.

St Peter’s Pool, Marsaxlokk

This one’s for the cheese. It’s hard to say no to a good cheese plate and why would you if a trip to St Peter’s Pool is the price you pay for eating a wheel of brie? The gorgeous blues and the picturesque environment makes an hour-long trek a breeze.

Xlendi Cliffs, Xlendi

This one’s for the mince pies. Maybe the panettone too - it’s quite a tough one. Start with a trip to Gozo, get settled in and head to Xlendi. After you’ve picked your jaw off the pebbled beach, as you stand in awe of the beautiful surroundings, take to the stairs, and get yourself ready for a long, long adventure.

The capital’s centre, Valletta

This one’s for all the alcohol. We can hear you comment, “Hah, no amount of walking will counteract the amount of red wine and whiskey I drank last December!” You might be right, but this one will be a the easiest of the lot - take a trip to the capital and walk through Valletta. Just behave, the bars aren’t ready for you just yet!

Take this as an aesthetically appealing punishment for all the bad choices the festive season hit you with in 2018.
